Photo Of The Day: Horse and Carriage Rides In Seville

What gondolas are to Venice, the horses and carriages are to Seville. Today we spotted them lined up around the Cathedral and in Plaza de España and I have to admit they really add to the charm of the city... I wonder if they are the same ones that parade during the April Fair... However, I feel sorry for the poor creatures, having to endure the Sevillian heat all day long with a piece of metal in their mouth. Well, al least they can enjoy some gorgeous views whenever a client comes along, though I'm not sure they care about the beauty of Seville...

Have you ever took a horse and carriage ride? Do you find it romantic?

  1. I've never actually taken one of these - they always seem so expensive! And I feel really bad for the horses, though I imagine the owners do their best to keep them comfortable (hopefully?). It would be fun to try once, though.

    1. I hope so too. At least the owners have a choice, have other options, have another life besides this one, but the poor horses don't...

  2. I've never gone on a carriage ride, in Seville nor in the other cities where they do it, I don't really know why but it doesn't look like something I would like to do...
I do enjoy watching them going past though!

    1. They are beautiful to watch indeed. We've never gone on a horse and carriage ride either. There are many reasons for not doing so...

  3. I did that when I went to Seville in 2005. It was such an awesome experience. I felt like royalty!

    1. Haha, yeah, I guess it's one of those things that make us feel special.

  4. Poor horses! Their backs must be hurting really bad! I hope they get fed well and get enough rest as well.

    1. I don't thinks it is their backs that hurt as much as their mouths. They are obviously bothered by the bit collar. And the flies are really nasty too. They just don't care about humans, but they 'love' the horses.

  5. That's really interesting -- I never knew that horse drawn carriages were ubiquitous in Seville as gondolas are in Venice. I am sure I have been in one before, but definitely not with my husband. Sounds like a nice romantic date is in order!

    1. Oh, they must be, they are everywhere in Seville. I've now discovered them in smaller plazas too.

  6. It looks so romantic. If it's not too hot out I think I would enjoy the ride :-)
